This is reprint of the guidance sheet sent out to new members explaining how we select pubs for the Good Beer Guide.
This is a brief summary of how the Good Beer Guide (GBG) selection process works. It starts with nominations, supported by Quality Reports put in by you the membership, through to selection when pubs on the list that meet our acceptance criteria are voted for. The process is as democratic as we can make it.
HOW
THE NOMINATIONS WORK
Any member can nominate a pub for consideration for the GBG.
However if a pub is already in the GBG it will automatically go forward onto the
next year’s list so long as its quality reports are to the required standard and
there is no change of management. It is a requirement that the landlord must
have been running the pub for 6 months, though this may be waived if they are a
licensee moving pubs and have established “good beer keeping” credentials. The
nomination list closes on 30th November.
HOW THE BEER QUALITY REPORTS WORK
From February 2011 the branch will adopt the National Beer Scoring Scheme. You will find a small quantity of report sheets enclosed. You can also submit quality reports direct by email to the Surveys Officer listed on the welcome letter, or through the main CAMRA website. www.camra.org.uk
To qualify for inclusion on the final voting form in February, a pub must have an average score of 3. You can still use the existing TES Beer Quality System in the current period as the Surveys Officer will apply a conversion factor for this method of voting.
HOW THE SELECTION FOR THE GBG WORKS
Around New Year we send out to all members a list of the pubs that have been nominated under the above rules. Each member will enter in order of preference, the pubs they consider should go into the GBG. You should only vote for pubs you have visited in the past year even if this is only a handful. The forms should be sent back to the survey officer or you can attend the selection meeting.
For the GBG this part of Shropshire has an allocation of 25 or 26 pubs. The nominations list may well have 50 pubs on it, so you see many people, including some landlords, will be disappointed.
It is most important we get the feedback above so the GBG is a truly quality orientated publication.
