Selection Night GBG 2013

Our GBG 2013 Selection Night on February 7th was again well attended, with 35 members braving the freezing night air to cast their votes. Also I would think to see who was 'in' and who failed the final hurdle. This year we had 26 pubs to put forward, and hopes were held for the north of the patch to gain some GBG representation. There were many smiling faces at the end, but a few glum ones as well. Just about all the 41 pubs on the list were worthy of inclusion, but it is all down to numbers in the end, and 15 failed to get the onto the list. As usual, all we can say if you are disappointed and you didn't vote- well can we say more. Twenty votes were enough to achieve an entry into the guide.
The POTY voting was :-
Band A Fighting Cocks, Oakengates
             Wrekin Inn, Wellington
Band B White Hart, Shifnal
             All Nations, Madeley
Band C Railwayman'sArms, Bridgnorth
             Fighting Cocks, Stottesdon

The Good Beer Guide is more than just a pub guide. Britain 's longest-running and best-selling guide contains Britain 's best pubs for real ale. But for beer lovers it also gives up-to-date information on the country's beers and breweries. It's compiled by 130,000 dedicated volunteers in the Campaign for Real Ale. There are no fees for listings, and every pub is checked many times a year.

The Good Beer Guide offers:

The best pubs in England , Wales , Scotland , Northern Ireland , the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man that serve cask-conditioned real ale in tip-top condition.

Full details of beer, food, entertainment, family facilities, history and architecture for the pub entries.

New section listing Award Winning Pubs.

The unique Breweries section that lists all the breweries -- micro, regional and national -- that produce cask beer, with tasting notes compiled by CAMRA-trained tasting teams. There's also information about beers suitable for vegetarians and vegans, as well as the growing number of organic beers. The Guide lists new breweries, closed breweries, mergers and takeovers, and keeps track of the new, powerful pub groups.
